All about the Mayan train route

This is the journey offered by the Maya Train Route, a new tourist train that will connect the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.

Along its 1,554-kilometer route, the Tren Maya will pass through some of the region's most emblematic sites, such as Chichén Itzá, Tulum, Uxmal and Campeche.

But not only that, the Mayan Train will allow you to experience nature in all its splendor and differently. You will be able to contemplate the majesty of the Mayan jungle, make a stop to swim in the most crystalline cenotes in the world and also enjoy the beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya.

What will be the route of the Mayan Train?

The route of the Mayan Train is divided into seven sections:

Section 1: Palenque - Escárcega (Chiapas - Campeche) Section 2: Escárcega - Calkiní (Campeche) Section 3: Calkiní - Izamal (Campeche - Yucatán) Section 4: Izamal - Cancún (Yucatán) Section 5 North: Cancun - Playa del Carmen (Quintana Roo) Stretch 5 South: Playa del Carmen - Tulum (Quintana Roo) Section 6: Tulum - Chetumal (Quintana Roo) Section 7: Chetumal - Escárcega (Quintana Roo - Campeche)

In this pre-opening stage, only the Cancun-Campeche section will be enabled. However, the official inauguration of the complete route is scheduled for the end of February 2024.

What tourist sites will I find along the route?

Along the Tren Maya route, passengers will be able to visit a wide variety of tourist sites, including:

Chichen Itza: One of the most important Mayan cities in the world, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Tulum: An ancient walled Mayan city located in the Riviera Maya.

Uxmal: A Mayan city with impressive architectural structures.

Campeche: A colonial city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Merida: The capital of the state of Yucatan, known as "The White City".

In each car of the Tren Maya, nature, history and the magic of Tulum merge, offering a journey that captivates the senses and leaves a mark in the heart of every traveler.

How much does the Tren Maya cost per trip?

**The cost per trip on the Cancun-Campeche section is 1,166 Mexican pesos (about 58 dollars) for the tourist class and 1,862 Mexican pesos (about 97 dollars) for the premier class **.

Schedules

Inaugural ticket sales are now available online. Two routes are available:

Route 1: Cancun - Campeche, with 14 stops. Route 2: Cancun Airport - Campeche, with 6 stops Departure times are at 7:00 and 11:00 am.
